Candice Dickerson Camacho
Recently Candice moved to Los Angeles from Las Vegas to chase her dreams and pursue a career in television as host. She is no stranger to hard work or getting what she wants having successfully built two brands from the ground up! Candice and I are becoming friends through a mutual friend of ours, Heather Marianna, and I wanted to share Candice's story with you. She is vivacious, fun, smart, and full of energy...ready to tackle any challenge that comes her way with determination while smiling. I am sure that we will be seeing a lot more of Candice Dickerson Camacho if Hollywood knows what's good for them and that is the way I see it! Xx Billy Charles
BC: So I always like to ask where someone has grown up...
CD: I grew up in Kansas City
MO!
BC: Tell me about your family and what they are like...
CD: I looooooove my family! My parents,
sister and I are all really close. My mom started me in dance class really
young, so much of my nights were devoted to that. Both of my parents always
worked full time, because they wanted to provide the best for my sister and I.
Family life was good, but growing up was a bit more challenging.
BC: How so?
CD: I was a self-proclaimed nerd in school. It took me awhile to blossom as they say! I was very tall, had acne , and I needed braces. I definitely had my awkward phase in life. I ended up being bullied in high school, which ended up to lead to work with Big Brothers and Big Sisters.
BC: I was bullied also so I feel for what you went through but it has made me much stronger having gone through it...

BC: I was bullied also so I feel for what you went through but it has made me much stronger having gone through it...
CD: Agree! I’m actually thankful though for that
difficult time. It has definitely helped shape me into the person I am
today!
BC: I understand that you have been dancing and performing since a young age...how has that helped shaped you as a person?
CD: I started performing at a very young age.
My mom said she wanted to keep me out of trouble, so she kept me VERY busy! I
was involved in dance, especially ballet. You have to be very disciplined to
study ballet at that age. While the other kids were at the pool in the summer, I
was in the studio. The company I was in worked every night, but Friday and
Sunday. So, I had to be disciplined to get homework done and make it to class on
time. It was an extreme lifestyle that has carried over in my adult life. It
taught me to stay focused and grounded.
BC: What was Candice like back then?
CD: When I was growing up, I used to dream of
an exciting, thrilling life. I remember I had an internship and I would pretend
my cubicle was a stage. I just wanted something out of the ordinary. I wanted
to dance for a living and perform for people. Being from a conservative place
like Kansas City, this was a little unheard of. Most of the girls I knew wanted
to marry their high school sweethearts and stay in Kansas City. However, I knew
that wasn’t for me. I knew that I was an “out of the box thinker” and was going
to choose a different path in life than most.

BC:What was sharing a stage with Bette Midler like for you?

BC: Besides being absolutely beautiful....how did you become involved with modeling?
CD: ( laughs) Why thank you! I got into modeling after I was involved
in the pageant circuit in Kansas City. My pageant coach referred me to an agent
there. I originally started with prom and bridal gowns in KC. When I moved to
Vegas I got to work with some top designers and did frequent runway shows. I did
informal modeling, trunk shows, runway, and swimsuit at the pools in the summer.
I also worked as a hair model for Tigi, Paul Mitchell, and
L'Oreal.
BC: I hear that on top of everything else that you are a yoga instructor ...do tell me about that...
CD: I got certified to teach Bikram Yoga in
2006. I originally was attracted to Bikram because I heard that is could
possibly heal my back pain. Also, being a dancer I was always looking for ways
to keep my body in top shape. I had been experiencing extreme lower back pain
for years and nothing had helped. Bikram is the toughest exercise I’ve ever
done, but it works! My back got worse before it got better, but I eventually
healed my own back! Bikram strengthens from the spine from top to bottom, making
space for each vertebrae, cartilage, and disk. There is a lot of back bending
involved as well as core strength. You wouldn’t think that the best thing you
can do for a weak spine is to bend backwards, but it is!! I wanted to become a
teacher because it is such a service to others. It is part of my life’s work to
spread all the healing properties of this yoga. I know that every time a student
takes my class that they will have a better day. Being a yoga teacher is one of
my favorite accomplishments in my life. You can catch my class at Bikram Yoga
Costa Mesa at The Camp!
BC: Speaking of health...what has attracted you to the " vegan lifestyle" ?
CD: I was originally attracted to the
vegetarian/vegan lifestyle because I educated myself on the ethical treatment of
animals. Once I got a glimpse on what went on at slaughter houses there was no
turning back. It’s absolutely horrible the way these animals are treated.
Contrary to popular belief, our bodies were NEVER designed to eat meat in the
first place! For instance, our alkaline saliva is not meant to break down
animal flesh. Carnivores have acidic saliva that is perfectly designed for the
task and hydrochloric acid. The stomachs of carnivores have 10 times more
hydrochloric acid, which is essential for digesting animal carcass. Compared to
carnivores, our intestines are extremely long, so food that does not pass gets
stuck. It’s possible to have food rotting, decomposing, and fermenting in our
intestinal tracks! However, animals quickly pass food through their shorter,
more equipped intestines. Don’t get me started on dairy! I’ll just say that by
design Cows’ milk can grow a 90 pound calf into a 2000-pound cow in two years.
Sound fattening? It is!
BC: Please tell my readers about " The Diva's Dish" and what inspired you to start that?
CD: I
started The Diva’s Dish because I am extremely passionate about living a healthy
lifestyle and showing others how to do it. All vegetarian meals do not have to
be expensive and have a ton of ingredients. I find it very empowering to not eat
animals and I want to share that with others. All of my meals are easy to
prepare and have around 300 calories. Some of my meals are my original recipes,
while others are just quick tips on how to stay healthy. I recently started a
new lifestyle blog,www.Divasdish.com
I’ll be showcasing my favorite recipes,
words of wisdom, and tips and trick on how to be a modern mom!
BC: How can you describe your other gig " Platinum Platforms" and how it came about?
CD: I started Platinum Platforms because
there are some celebrities out there that are actually doing great things! They
are not all train-wrecks like Lindsay Lohan and Charlie Sheen. Some celebrities
are actually really inspiring. Ellen DeGeneres gives hundreds of thousands of
dollars to breast cancer, and Rihanna founded the Believe Foundation. The
Believe Foundation gives children a chance to thrive in a world where they might
not have been given medical attention, school supplies, and clothes they
deserve. I love pop culture and like to read my occasional
InTouch!
BC: Give me five like and five not so much...
CD: 5 likes:
1. A kiss from my husband in the
morning
2. Ice water during
yoga
3. Morning cup of
coffee
4. My dog
5. Being able to chose my destiny and path in
life
CD: 5 Dislikes:
1. Traffic
2. rude people
3. 9-5 job
4. Not being able to do exactly what I
want
5. Not having time to
myself
BC: when you have time...what do you do for fun?
CD: What do I do for fun?
I like to go out for fun! I’m taking a
break now, but usually I can be found at Happy Hour on Fridays!! I love going to
the lake: tubing, jet-skiing, and hanging out!!! Also, I honestly love working.
They say if you love what you do, then you can’t call it work!
BC: What have you been up to lately?
CD: What I’ve been up to
lately?!
What haven’t I been up to lately is a
good question!!!! ( both laugh) This year, bar far, has been the most challenging ever. I
mean, just when I thought I had everything figured out!
BC: Are you talking about your move from Vegas to LA?
CD: ( laughs) And more! I soon tired of the scene in Sin City and
had plans of moving west to L.A. I decided to pursue my long time dream of TV.
Why settle? I want “The Big Dream” I started taking class from the top teacher
in L.A, Marki Costello. ( side note; Marki will be on the new Jeff Lewis season on Bravo TV ) I’d leave Vegas at 2pm, take classes in Santa Monica
from 7-10, then drive back to Vegas to be at work the next day! Crazy! I did all
the planning I could, saving money, working on my materials, and visioning my
dream.

BC: I also heard through the grapevine that there may be someone special in your life that is keeping you busy too ( both laugh) care to share?
CD: In my travels to L.A, I had met and
fallen in love with a very charming Southern California guy. And trust me,
dating in Vegas had been tragic to say the least! Anthony swooped me up with his
wit and charisma. We soon were spending as much time together as we could. I was
thrilled to be closer to him when I moved to the L.A. area.
BC: There is also a MAJOR twist to your story...
CD: You definite can say that ( both laugh)! I moved to L.A. Nov 15th and found out on
Nov 16th that I was a mommy to be! Boom! What??! Before I knew it, we were
getting married, I was a step-mom to two girls, and I was pregnant! They say you
make plans and God laughs. He must have been hysterical laughing at
me!
The happy Mom to be! |

BC: Congrats that is so awesome! When are you due?
CD: Athena James Camacho “AJ” arrives in 2
weeks, July 6 2013! So, my life is turning out MUCH different than I ever
expected. I’m terrified and excited all at the same time.
BC: Wow talk about throwing a wrench in your plans...but an added bonus! ( both laugh)
CD: Yes...I had major plans! I was moving in with my girlfriend in the Valley, had a job at a bar to start out, an agent, and a boyfriend. I was set and VERY excited! Now I am feeling blessed more than ever!
BC: Where do you see yourself a few years down the road?
CD: I’m looking forward to
balancing my life of motherhood, being a new wife, and navigating through the
ever so competitive L.A. world! I have a chance to re-write my dream life, and
this time it includes my handsome hubby and a baby!!
BC: It was great getting to know you and I am so happy we finally got the chance to do this!
CD: Thank you it was fun...timing is everything. ( both laugh)
